The Verdict

Reminiscent of a high school canteen—only leaps and bounds better—Miss Ruben is making waves in Ripponlea for its homely, unpretentious lunches which are ready-made and oh-so-easy to snag on the go.

Meals are simple but refined. Sandwiches include a lean pastrami on chewy rye with red kraut and pickles. If you’re not a pastrami fan (um, who are you?!), go for the smoked-whitefish with red onion, tomato and rocket. A range of rotating salads, bowls of buttery biscuits and freshly baked goods are also on display.   

For when you’re inevitably addicted, Miss Ruben’s readymade take-home meals are perfect for lazy winter nights. Or, if you’ve been roped into cooking for your next date and you’re still trying to impress, grab some sneaky lamb shoulders and a range of dips. No-one has to know.
