Under a month ago, couple Lauren and Maxime Croiset opened up a takeaway rotisserie serving up indulgent French cuisine using a blend of classic and modern recipes. Located close to the Yarra Valley, their French-inspired meats are locally sourced and fresh produce is the foundation of their meals.
Maxime is Michelin-trained and ex-head chef to Victoria’s oldest winery, Yering Station and so customers can expect more than just your average takeaway hangout. Using several family recipes, the pair are churning out French favourites like beef bourguignon, confit duck and home-made terrines. For some lunch options, there’s the humbled croque monsieur and pommes frites with plenty of freshly baked bread and desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Mon Poulet translates to 'my chicken' because in France, locals call their best friends 'poulet' or 'poulette' as a term of love. Lauren and Maxime want customers to feel loved while enjoying their comfort food and share it over a bottle of wine with mates on the couch at home. The Croydon space is small with a wooden exterior and large glass windows with a hearty array of food on display for passers-by to drool at.
So next time you’re after some takeaway grub, ditch your local fish and chips joint and get some class on your fork at Mon Poulet.
