Steve Kingi, the owner of Highett's uber cool Hot Lips Hacienda, has created a mix of menu that builds on both African and Portuguese flavours. Not something you typically find Bayside, or anywhere for that matter.
The menu was inspired by Steve’s travels through Mozambque (makes sense), and you can expect to see some African classic dishes we all know and love, but with flavours combos that come way out of left field. Think king prawns with birds eye chilli, parsley and lime, Peri Peri chicken cooked over a smokey grill (you can even get a freakin Peri Peri parma) and a big ol’ grilled corn on the cob. Don’t forget the literal "bag of cinnamon donuts" to wash it all down. Food just sounds better when you order it by the bag, eh.
If chicken or ribs aren’t your thing, don’t fret. There are heaps of vegetarian options that'll leave you smacking the lips. The flavours are spot on for the warmer weather, with options like mango salad and sauteed mushrooms, spiked with balsamic and garlic.
If all that doesn't get you frothing, the cocktail list certainly will. And trust us, they’re as delicious as they are pretty. Grab one, take a seat among the cushions and couches, or pull up a chair at the bar and let the colourful, bold décor whisk you away to Africa. There's even a range of African craft beers on tap.
