It finally happened: Mr Mister got a sister. Mazel tov! Mr Sister is the latest venture from coffee maestro Tyson Chambers, and it’s got a lot in common with its big bro. The two cafes are all about contemporary food done right, made with love and paired with some sleek minimalist design. But that’s where the sibling rivalry kicks in…

Sister has gone with a blue and gold scheme, all bold angles and bright colours (unlike Mister’s familiar pastels), and there’s a few new flavours on the menu. We’d definitely recommend the home-blended smoothies and juices (go the Snickers—cacao, peanut butter, banana, avocado, maple syrup and coconut milk), and they go pretty well with a big plate of chilli-folded scrambled eggs, toasted charcoal soda bread, basil goat’s curd and oven-dried tomatoes. The familiar Acai smoothie bowl makes an appearance (this time with banana, kiwi, strawberries and buckwheat granola) but we’re saving stomach space for the potato rosti, pulled pork, crackling and caramelized apple butter. Yep, that’s a thing.

As for seating, take your pick—cosy dining room or plant-covered outdoor courtyard? Either way you’re getting heaps of natural light, exposed brick, slick waiters and cute suburban views.

Sister is built for East Malvern flat white-sippers, not Windsor espresso-crushers, but the familial resemblance is uncanny. Mr Mister quickly became a Chapel St staple, and there’s no reason the formula can’t work further east. Assemble the brunch crew, guys—there’s a new caf on the block.
