The Verdict

If slurpy, rich ramen is right up your alley, then Musashi is where it’s at. An ode to one of Japan’s most beloved and globally celebrated dishes, Musashi is expertly and especially made by Chef Rikisai Miyajima. Perfecting a family broth recipe for over 25 years, each steaming bowl of ramen has a distinct, rich and aromatic flavour, and textured hand-cut noodles that balance out the broth.

There are plenty of ramen dishes to choose from too. From the firey Wagyu Yakuza Ramen featuring delicate soy broth topped with M9+ Master Kobe Wagyu—which is torched right in front of you at your table—to the spicy Red Dragon featuring homemade miso broth and soy-braised pork belly, each dish offers a modern twist on old classics.

If you’re not in the mood for ramen, there is also an extensive ala carte menu including a plethora of delicious don dishes, crispy karaage chicken, salmon carpaccio, oysters—the list is endless.

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s Chinatown, the ramen and izakaya bar is an understated, cosy space adorned with paper lanterns, Japanese art, hanging lights and faux hut-like corrugated iron, making you feel like you’ve stepped into a bustling backstreet of Tokyo.

It’s no fuss, delicious ramen at its best proving that happiness really is at the bottom of a ramen bowl.
