The Verdict
Need a new lunch spot? Look no further! The perfect Japanese takeout lies right on Fitzroy’s Smith Street.
Amongst the classic Japanese curries, karaage, tempura and gyoza, you’ll find Neko Neko’s signature dish—vegan ramen. From Tokyo to Melbourne, this special ramen has travelled far. It’s got a healthy homemade 20-ingredient broth and eggless noodles of authenticity you can taste because the owners and chefs are all Japanese.
The name of the restaurant is translated to “Cat Cat” in English, which explains why you’ll find random cat decorations littered around the store in a cozy space that pays homage to Japanese anime. Co-owner and cat lover Saori Kawasaki’s inspiration behind the theme was based on cats’ love for fish.
They’ve also got three more establishments—Yoku Ono Bar + Sake in Prahran, and the Wabi Sabi Restaurants in Collingwood and St Kilda.
