Niku Shiki
THE VERDICT
Niku Shiki has graced The Glen for two years, cementing itself as the epicenter for premium wagyu in Melbourne. Now, the three-in-one Wagyu specialist has landed in the heart of Melbourne’s bustling CBD.
Niku Shiki, translating to ‘meat for all seasons’ in Japanese, covers all fronts—it houses a dedicated Wagyu butcher, a slick Japanese restaurant, and a takeaway deli with a menu curated by the hatted head chef at Marble Yakiniku.
The good stuff comes straight from Pardoo Wagyu in WA and award-winning Stone Awe Wagyu, providing the highest quality cuts from hot pot cuts to MS9+ oyster blade steaks. You can also go the red meat-free route with a decent selection of fresh filets and whole fish, and pick up some sake and marinades to level up your home cooking.
On the takeaway front, head for the ‘Grab & Go’ deli counter and pick up the huge spread of sushi and sashimi on offer with highlights including wagyu nigiri and tempura prawn wagyu sushi roll.
Last but certainly not least, if time is on your side, take a right when you walk through the doors for the slick restaurant. The menu is stacked with options including hot pots, wagyu sandos, M9 wagyu tacos, and wagyu chuck eye roll katsu. You can even snag a modest bento set for under $30 during lunch time.
Niku Shiki is open on the daily from 11am.
