From the team behind the beloved speciality coffee roasters, Code Black, a brand new venue has sprung up on the ever-bustling Flinders Lane. Introducing No. 100, a wine bar, delicatessen and restaurants all rolled into one conveniently located little package. An all-day venue, No. 100 serves up everything from midday nibbles to a chef-selected menu where decision fatigue is a thing of the past.
Although Code Black is primarily known for its prowess in coffee space, owner Joseph Haddad had had his sights set on dining for while now. “Food, wine, coffee, it all goes hand in hand,” says Ellen Reinhardt, house sommelier and restaurant manager. “Ending your meal with a great coffee is one of those things that sound so small but is very significant, and that’s where the idea started.” Although the idea started around the beginning of the pandemic, the team never lost sight of their goal - to make a bistro with stellar Australian produce and a wicked drinks menu.
The food menu is emphatically bistro-inspired, with plenty of European influence. Blending Australian produce with European offerings is their speciality, as seen with their zucchini flower and bush tomato entree, topped with Romesco. Other favourites include the squid noodles, served with silverbeet and nduja, and the Basque cheesecake, with peaches and thyme.
Nighttime turns No. 100 into more of a wine bar, and the drinks menu is appropriately curated. Start off with a Laneway Aperitif, a concoction of Fino sherry, dessert wine, tonic and sage, and finish off with a Silver Fox, which has rye whiskey, Code Black coffee liqueur, hazelnut and bitters. Of course, they’re not skimping on the wines either, as well as some beers for that choice after-work knock off.
Settled in at 100 Flinders Lane, patrons are encouraged to enjoy all aspects of No. 100. “You can absolutely come in and make it what you want,” says Reinhardt. “During the day we’ve got the deli selection, everyone’s been coming in for a sandwich and a wine. In the evenings, we’ve almost become an unofficial martini spot.”
No.100 Flinders is open now, head over here for more.
