THE VERDICT
Not exactly what you expect on a CBD rooftop. Six gleaming Airstream camper trailers, straight out of the 1970s, converted into boutique chalets. Whoever reckoned we hit peak Melbourne didn't bank on these bad boys.
Hotel No is the brainchild of James Fry, who co-owns the three-story carpark below with his Dad. For years he was torn on what to do with the roof space. Pool? Cinema? Restaurant? Eventually he settled on a hotel...but not just any hotel. The Airstreams were sourced from the States, shipped over and converted into designer rooms.
Each one comes with an iPad, virtual concierge, Netflix and an in-room minibar (don’t worry, it’s all free); slurp on a couple of tasty beers or a bottle of local vino and jump in the spa (if you splashed out on the spa room of course).
The rooms come fully equipped with everything else you need, an ensuite, LED strip lighting to get the mood just right, and best of all deals with neighbouring venues, like Saluministi, where you can pop downstairs and grab a free coffee in the morning.
Hang out in the common area, play a game of cornhole, relax in the beanbags and take advantage of that mini bar, it's a vibe. After your activities? Head downstairs and hit Flinders Lane for some dinner, but be warned, don't get lost on your way back, these hidden stays require a cheeky bit of problem solving to find.
