Old Garage Cafe
The Verdict
Down in the leafy streets of Camberwell, there’s a sleepy little cafe that’s been making some noise in the suburban precinct. Old Garage Cafe which launched back in mid-2020 has made its home out of a former mechanic's garage, the industrial feel of the space with the raw brick interior brings back some of that repair shop charm. Tucked down a side street just off the main drag Old Garage has a very casual feel, a doggo friendly policy also adds to the welcome atmosphere.
You’d expect your typical brunch/cafe haunt when glancing at the menu with staples like ‘Bashed Avocado’ and Chipotle Scrambled Eggs but Old Garage have designed their menu so that almost all of the dishes can be recreated with 100% plant-based ingredients.
An all are welcome approach, Old Garage’s focus is to be inclusive of all dietary preferences removing the barrier that previously predetermined where friends and family would dine.
You can grab house-made french toast with candied bacon and mascarpone alongside a beyond meat burger with house-made relish with (vegan) provolone cheese on brioche with peri-peri fries.
There’s a slew of different specials on rotation from the Old Garage team and head chef Harley Salantiri formerly of 400 Gradi a dedicated vegan himself, as well as smoothies, juices, and quality coffee pouring with beans from the Genovese crew.
You can feel good spending your hard-earned cash here with the cafe owners putting a large focus on supporting animal shelters and charities. They often run donation drives with proceeds going to select animal organisations such as Loki’s Lodge.
