The verdict
Guy Grossi's Ombra Salumi Bar is his Italian inspired 'salumeria' and is the home of the best cured meats in Melbourne. Located next to Grossi's other restaurant, Grossi Florentino, Ombra is split over two levels - the downstairs a wooded, rich dining area while upstairs a lamplit drinkers' den. Pick your poison and then allow yourself to dine on the extensive list of meats that have been candied, smoked, salted, pickled, dried, aged - you name it, accompanied with one of the best wine lists in the city. This is the closest you'll get to the real Italy, so make sure you book in advance so you can taste that prosciutto and pinot before anyone else.
