The Verdict

The northern suburbs have an array of amazing pizza shops, but there's one in Fitzroy North called Piccolino that's doing things a little differently.

Italian chef Andrea Fioriti is at the helm and brings a range of experience from Italy to Piccolino where he continues to nudge the boundaries of how Melburnians view Italian cuisine and challenges a typical trattoria dining experience.

"We have many Italian restaurants here in Melbourne and many offer beautiful and authentic Italian food. I think what is missing is a full experience; it’s not just about the food, but also about the vibe... the overall experience.

At Piccolino we make sure every single customer has the opportunity to have fun with us, their family, friends and loved ones while enjoying great food and drinks," says Andrea.

On the menu, you'll find a seasonal menu of house-made pasta and gnocchi alongside their amazing selection of wood-fired pizzas.

Piccolino also has an extensive aperitivo menu which is perfect for an after-work snack with a couple of wines. A standout is the torta al testo, a flat bread that's filled with grilled seasonal vegetables, along with cheese and salumi.

Also, don't miss their Spag Bowl. A dish of spaghetti that's served directly in a bowl made from pizza dough.
