The verdict
Cleverly named after the white tiled pole in the centre of the café they could not remove, Pillar of Salt is one of the top picks for brunching in Richmond. Like all good Melbourne cafes they offer a simple breakfast and lunch menu (takeaway baguettes too!) with injections of personality to make it interesting. Such as their 'Summer in Paris' breakfast - half a ruby grapefruit served with a freshly baked croissant and French butter - yum! They brew 5 Senses coffee and you can sip away in their big ol' courtyard or amongst the cute black cushioned chairs inside. Don't leave without trying their chilli scrambled eggs, they're famous for a reason.

Nestled between skyscapers in the eternal hustle and bustle of Exhibition Street in the CBD, Japan-influenced bakery Bloomwood has carved a croissant-shaped hole in our hearts.
