Pizza Luna
THE VERDICT
Trading the desk for the dough, Mornington Peninsula local and ex-Urban List ed turned pizza devotee Simon Cassar, has parked his pop-up venture, Pizza Luna, at Quealy Winemakers for a summer residency takeover.
With a pared-back menu of four 12-inch, hand-stretched pizzas, Simon’s “thinner, chewy and crispier” style lets local ingredients take centre stage in his less-is-more approach.
There’s the traditional Marg and the cheese-heavy Salami—layered with pecorino, stracciatella, basil and lemon for those who like to play it safe. But the standouts are undoubtedly the Green, featuring a base of garlic cream topped with zucchini, jalapeno, basil and pistachio, as well as the drop-in special, Joshy, crowned with morsels of Italian sausage, thinly sliced potato, provolone, and a kick of honey-fermented chilli.
Perch yourselves up on the wine-barrel tables, sip on Quealy’s award-winning organic vinos and latest vintages—like their contact Ribolla Gialla, Splendido sparkling wine or the Feri Maris Pinot Grigio—and catch Simon slinging slices every weekend until the end of January.
