The Verdict
PA's has been a watering hole for Melbourne Uni students since the beginning of time (actual time, 1926). Unfortunately Prince Alfred closed its doors in 2015, and all hope seemed lost—until the 100 Burger Group took over the venue last year.
Now the guys who brought us Welcome To Thornbury, Mr Burger and Murmur Piano Bar have remodelled PA's and given the old girl a new lease on life. We're talking a pastel pink window cafe, new-look interior, revamped menu and (best of all) a kickass new rooftop beer garden.
Now we're talkin'.
Despite the ambitious renovations, PA's hasn't ditched their student-friendly pub deals. That means $15 parma’s on Tuesdays and $15 steaks on Thursdays. The new streetside coffee window opens up at 7am, ready to caffeine the crap out of early classes. Happy hour runs from 4pm – 6pm every day, when you can get $4 pots, $8 pints and $5 basic wines. They're even adding BOTTOMLESS pancakes and mimosas for brunch on Sundays. Noice.
The bevvy list is hefty, with a bunch of local and imported ales on tap, classic cocktails and a range of local and European vino. You can grab craft bottles like Rover Henty St Ale and Bridge Rd 'Bling' IPA, or kick off with $12 pints of McCracken's. If you're heading up top, take it from us—grab a sangria jug to kick start your night.
The new ground-floor PA's is up and running as of last week, but it'll still be a little while before the rooftop is ready to go. Watch this space. We'll be keeping you VERY updated.
PS. Although the pub opens its doors at 11am, the cafe space will be running from 7am – 3pm every day.

Chapati & Daaru
Chapati's new Crossley Street home continues its reign as one of the city's most vibrant modern Indian kitchens, but it's the daring upstairs addition—Daaru cocktail bar—that's really setting tongues wagging (and burning).
