Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca
Set up in a prime spot on Fitzroy’s Gertrude Street is Rocco's Bologna Discoteca, an Ital-inspired takeaway sandwich shop. Chef Josh Fry (ex Marion and Cumulus Inc) along with co-owners Zoë Rubino and Emilio Scalzo originally set their sights on opening the doors of their restaurant in March this year, but due to restrictions, they made the decision to switch to a takeaway-delivery model so we could get our hands on their cuisine throughout lockdown.
Think fast food, but make it fancy. Roccos Bologna Discoteca is designed to get stuck into. While their signature bologna sandwiches are the star of the show, there’s also bone marrow Garlic Bread, a veggie lasagne and a selection of traditional desserts.
Fry explained his vision, stating “I had been working for the last seven years or so in fine dining, so with Rocco’s I just wanted to do something fun that you can grab with your hands and get messy with. It’s like Italian Maccas”.
Their menu is available for pick-up at 81-83 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy between 5pm to 9pm Wednesday through Friday, and from 12pm to 6pm on the weekends. Just order online and be sure to snag yourself a selection of servings.
