Rocco’s Bologna Discoteca
The Verdict
Rocco's Bologna Discoteca, everyone's favourite Ital-inspired takeaway sandwich pop-up has just announced they'll be becoming a permanent fixture with a new location on Gertrude Street Fitzroy.
Behind the operation are Poodle's Zoë Rubino and Emilio Scalzo with chef Josh Fry (ex-Cumulus and Marion) taking care of the kitchen. Think fast food, but make it fancy. Roccos Bologna Discoteca is designed to get stuck into. While their meatball sub and signature bologna sandwiches are the stars of the show; there’s also bone marrow garlic bread, daily gnocchi Fritto specials, and plenty of other treats from Fry including a bold and bloody delicious veal tongue Tonnato sanga.
Fry explained his vision, stating “I had been working for the last seven years or so in fine dining, so with Rocco’s I just wanted to do something fun that you can grab with your hands and get messy with. It’s like Italian Maccas”.
At the moment they're only running across the weekend, opening up at 12pm and dishing up the goods until sold out. You can find the shop at 15 Gertrude Street Fitzroy or keep an eye on their Instagram for all the delicious details as they roll in.
