The Verdict

Your belly will thank you after a visit to East Brunswick’s latest takeaway opening. East Rusty’s Sandwich Parlour is the new establishment from Phil Gijsbers and Rob McKenzie following the success of their Green Acre Pizza Bar. The new takeaway joint follows a similar ethos to its pizza bar sister site—quality food, great flavours, and sustainability at the core of the business.

You’ll find a solid selection of vegan-friendly and vegetarian options, as well as some free-range meat sangas. Designed by executive chef Jay Van Rhee, the menu includes a beetroot Reuben, a beer-braised turkey offering, and his signature Cubano which includes 12-hour orange-braised pork.

As for bevs, you’re in safe hands. These Days Coffee Roasting, also owned by Gijsbers, are supplying traceable, ethical coffee beans for all your caffeine needs. And for those summer days, the guys are also offering OJ from The Great Australian Squeeze, based in McKenzie’s hometown of Koondrook.

The fit out has been lovingly completed by the team, using second hand and retro, recycled materials. The venue is run on green energy too. There’s so much to love about this new sanga bar so hop over to East Brunswick for a bite. They’re open weekdays 8am-3pm, and weekends 9am-2pm.
