THE VERDICT
Mont Blanc lovers, prepare to bookmark this one for your next coffee date. Nestled amongst the Collingwood warehouse offices is Secondipity Roasters, a Korean-style micro roastery and bakery.
Their super ‘Grammable house-made brews and salted cream buns have quickly gained them a massive following, especially among hungry workers.
Step inside, and you’re immediately part of the action: dough being kneaded to your left, cold brew poured to your right, and an industrial roasting set up tucked in the corner. Even remnants of graffiti on the ceiling add that little bit of northside oomph to the space. Coffee is freshly roasted weekly, and their specialty brews are as carefully crafted as their baked goods.
At the heart of the menu is their signature salted bread, a must-try in all its forms. Standouts include the spring onion cream cheese and the Injeolmi—a playful twist on traditional soybean-filled Korean rice cake, soft and chewy like mochi, but nestled inside their iconic bun. The Sweet Garlic Sogeum Pang reimagines garlic bread as a sweet-salty joy, while the Basque cheesecake is as good as it gets—baked exclusively by the owner himself.
Be warned: these buns are in high demand, with hundreds selling out before 11am most days. Stroll in early to secure your pick from this bakery-roastery hybrid that’s already making its mark on Melbourne’s food and coffee scene. And if you’ve missed out on the salted cream buns (the crowd favourite), try one of their plain buns dipped in the salted cream coffee—thank us later.
