The Verdict

Melburnian's rooftop bar obsession has been taken to new heights with Sky Bar opening 140 metres above the clouds. The doors are opening on the Yarra Hotel Group’s heavily anticipated venue this Thursday the 30th of June, after a lofty 5 years in development. Slip in through a private elevator entrance along Southbank's bustling Normanby Street and discover sweeping 360 views, stretching from Yarra River to Port Phillip Bay.

You’ll be lured into the sky-high experience from the moment you enter, with the mirrored walls reflecting an immersive video loop of Melbourne from a bird’s eye view. The team have decked out the Oakwood Premier’s 40th floor with luxurious distressed black walls, elegant golden finishings and floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

There are five venue spaces to explore including a floating alfresco terrace, a 16-metre bar, as well a five-star diner, Strato, which features an ever-changing seasonal menu, reflecting the freshest Victorian produce on offer. For the winter season, expect dishes like the grain-fed beef tartare with stubble quail egg yoke and native micro-herbs to a decadent Royal Beluga caviar served alongside kingfish ceviche.

The bar is well stocked with cocktails at the forefront, there are several new-age interpretations from the blood plum negroni to the rosewater lychee martini. If you’re after a V.I.P experience, there are multiple function spaces waiting to be booked out. Host classy celebrations with your own private bar and floating outdoor lounge space, shrouded in sheer curtain drapes on the north side of the venue.
