The Verdict

After a huge success with the Sliders on Tyres food trucks, Owen Scungio has opened his first flagship restaurant Slider Diner in Seddon.

Fitted with quirky 50s diner details, the slider-and-burger-focused venue has an Italian-influenced menu, sprinkled with Scungio’s impressive experience in the hospitality industry.

What makes a Slider Diner slider extra tasty is the fact that the entire ingredient list—from bun to patty—is made in-house or sourced locally. Plus, in keeping up with the “less is more” adage, Scungio is keeping the ingredient list short and sweet.

“Diversity in flavour isn’t always solved with adding ingredients,” Scungio says. “In fact, it’s often about reducing the number of elements in a dish to let the flavours speak for themselves.”

Sounds like a tasty philosophy.

Dive into classic flavour combinations such as the Lamb Slider (slow cooked lamb with taramasalata and house-made pickles) or the Cheeseburger with cold-smoke American cheese.

For those of us with a dessert problem, there’s a pulled pork doughnut with house BBQ sauce with our name all over it. Plus, Slider Diner’s also slinging truffled mac n’ cheese with pecorino, alcoholic milkshakes (yes please), as well as a rotating sweet pie of the day,  served with chantilly cream and ice cream on the side. Needless to say, we're in love.

Pop by the Slider Diner Wednesday to Friday but make sure to check the hours—they vary.
