The Verdict
From the owners of Elwood’s Blue Tongue Wine Bar comes St Giles, a beautiful wine bar complemented by a market kitchen and a delicatessen accompanied by a pantry and cellar door.
St Giles’ wine list provides a robust mix of local and international wines available by the glass or bottle. Local Victorian Chardonnays, Chablis or Burgundy from France, aromatic reds from Italy, or an Austrian or German Riesling; the finely curated list offers something for everyone’s palate.
With respect to the food, Head Chef Sebastian McQuarrie (Church St Enoteca, Donovans) is influenced by the mix of local and European flavours when it comes to the wonderfully curated menu. The must-order section of the menu includes the Steak Frites as well as the charred zucchini with feta, chilli and herbs. The menu boasts a hearty-list of premium cuts, pasture fed and sourced from regional Victoria while the market fish is as fresh as it comes and cooked to perfection.
Dark timber, leather seats and a long marble bar give the venue a seductive feeling—it ticks all the perfect date boxes. The Alfresco style terrace uses lush greens as a natural screen, with clever use of lighting to create an inviting atmosphere, which makes it the perfect place to sit back, unwind, and enjoy an amazing drop.
