The Verdict

At last, Footscray’s favourite pub—The Station Hotel is open for business! After recovering from an unfortunate fire earlier this year, the Melbourne icon is back to what it does best—serving epic grain-fed steaks, mouth-watering pub nibbles, ice cold beers and good times—to locals and suburb-hoppers alike.

If you haven’t yet visited The Station Hotel since its refurbishment, you’re in for a treat. The kitchen is back in all it’s glory, serving some of the most freshly shucked oysters and perfectly prepared steaks in Melbourne, thanks to head chef Tim Fowler’s five years’ experience at some of Melbourne’s top foodie pubs.

With renewed support for local producers, the new menu is centred around hearty, good-quality pub food that champions Aussie veggies and premium beef. Think Cape Grim flat iron, Gippsland Black Angus ribeye, Rangers Valley bavette and all the Béarnaise and pepper sauce that you can handle. The team has upped its drinks pairing game too, keeping a wide range of fresh beers and a selective list of local wines, which are available to take away if you decide you’re in the mood for a few at-home kick-ons.

We’ve fallen hard for the suckling pig with cider jus too, and if you’re a schnitzel fan, the pork schnitzel here is one of the finest in the state. Topped with fior di latte, serrano, coleslaw, pine nuts and a light mustard dressing, this is one luxe twist on the classic that’ll keep us coming back for more!

As you might imagine, The Station Hotel’s cosy pub setting is pretty much  *made* for kicking back with your mates for a mid-week meal, or settling in for a weekend session of drinks and catch-ups. With a daylight-filled dining hall, open fireplaces, and a buzzing beer garden, there’s enough space for you, your mates, their mates, and their mates’ mates. Although if you’re planning a birthday bash or group get-together, we’d recommend booking in advance.

In this ever-competitive foodie city, eateries come and go, but The Station Hotel has well and truly stood the test of time and is back on the scene to reclaim its title as one of Melbourne’s most epic food lovers’ pubs. BRB, just moving to Footscray so we can make this one our local.
