The Verdict

Teo’s quaint space on Malvern Road is quite the charmer, serving up a reliable array of hearty pasta and pizza dishes it has created a new standard for the area. Formerly under the Matteo’s moniker, the Trattoria-style venture comes from owners Matt Vero and Matt Ward, who both served time working at the ever-popular Armadale cafe, Coin Laundry just around the corner. 

Behind the bold white and green painted aesthetic of the diner, there’s a homestyle approach to the menu, with both Matt’s teaming up with head chef, Sam Kerney who’s drawn upon his own experiences in the southern Mediterranean country. “We want Teo’s to provide a place for friends to catch up mid-week, families to come together on weekends and the local community to enjoy,” says owner Matt Vero. 

There’s a Neapolitan approach to the woodfired pizza with a 72-hour rested dough which results in a perfectly dusted and crisp exterior and a stable lift to every slice. Each dish is like a big old familiar hug, pizza options vary, from your timeless and perfectly executed Pepperoni to the ‘Beef Braciola’ which is topped with a beef ragu and Fior Di Latte cheese. The pasta is equally as varied with a staple Amatriciana as well as a bold squid ink pasta with blue swimmer crab in a chilli-spiced tomato sugo.

The bar component is ever-present with a solid selection of cocktails that keep spirits high and senses up through carb-heavy courses, with Italian Digiestivi like Grappa or Amaretto as well as a well-sourced selection of imported wine and beers.
