The Verdict
A new Japanese offering has arrived at Melbourne's Emporium, and is fast becoming our go-to for casual CBD dining. With a large range of options on offer, Tetsujin not only fulfills our craving for a great, high-end sushi train in the city, but also delivers a contemporary Japanese BBQ space that feels a whole lot sexier than the Teppenyaki grills of days past.
Let's start with the sushi train: Because who doesn't love one?! The difference at Tetsujin is the sleek, sophisticated packaging, complete with more adventurous options, and your own iPad for ordering on the go. We recommend the creamy raw scampi nigiri, the delightful balls of crab claw paired with spicy mayo, and the smokey-as-you-like just-seared wagyu.
Then there's the grill: Not only are they delivering lunch specials, but the generous plates of fat scallops, succulent prawns and fresh pipis are positively screaming out for a share table. Let's hope your BBQ skills are A+.
Looking for a pre-show night out, or somewhere to fill your appetite before a weekend drinking session? Don't worry - they've got you covered with their totally Instagrammable Shinto Sour cocktail or their positively summery half cantaloupe-filled Soju cocktail.
Paired with awesome, affordable Japanese? That sounds like a weekend winner to us.
