The Verdict
Shopping is hungry work. Everyone knows it. So for retailer Country Road, the logic was pretty simple: let’s just cut out the middle man and open our own cafe. The result is The Brighton Buoy, an in-store eatery in collaboration with the guys at The Almond Milk Co.
So what does a Country Road cafe involve? For starters, plenty of almond milk, including flavoured varieties and-smooth almond smoothies. Food comes courtesy of Tommy Collins’ bakery The Hamptons (and if you’ve eaten there, you’ll know you’re in for a treat). It’s not a menu that’s gonna change brunch as we know it, but there’ll be a rotating seasonal range of fresh pastries, salads and sandos to keep up your Church St stamina.
Brighton isn’t short of cafes (parking spaces now, that’s another story), so it’ll be interesting to see how The Buoy goes in the face of some stiff competition. The concept has been trialled once before (in Sorrento’s Country Road store), and given Sorrento is basically Brighton on holidays, you’d expect the formula to work here too. New jeans and an almond latte in the one place? Sounds good to us.
