Currently the largest cafe in the area, newly opened The Coventry is located directly across the road from the historic South Melbourne Market and offers local specialty coffee, multi-cuisine Mediterranean influenced dishes and high-quality farm-to-table food.
The Coventry owner Nick Bourgazas is not new to the hospitality game—with successful venues such as Piatella and Meat In The Middle in Glen Waverley, Bourgazas jumped at the chance to return to his childhood stomping ground in South Melbourne.
Named after the street on which it is located, The Coventry is a contemporary cafe designed to meet the needs of the area’s multicultural community. Its large, open space filled with live greenery and an earthy vibe, serves as a community hub specialising in speciality coffee, breakfast and lunch options.
For breakfast, your eyes may dart between the French Toast (topped with smoked yoghurt, vanilla infused mascarpone, berries, and crumbled pistachio), or the freshly made Korean Fried Chicken & Waffles (drizzled with bourbon and maple syrup dressing—always a winning combo).
You can try the Gnocchi a la Noire (homemade ink gnocchi, chunky porcini mushrooms, with chicken and pesto) or their modern take on Fish & Chips by the way of finely cubed tuna, tartare, and golden polenta chips.
We’re calling shotgun on the waffles.
