The verdict
The creation of Michael Lambie and Scott Borg, The Smith on High Street in Prahran is a cool and casual spot that's perfect for dining and drinking after its multi-million dollar renovation in 2017, expanding in to the building next door and doubling the size of the venue. Grab a perch in the front bar and devour the Modern Aussie bar snacks, or enjoy à la carte in the restaurant space. There's also the new atrium bar next door, looking pretty under its enourmous retractable glass roof.
Take a sip of The Smith’s best cocktails, beers and wine. Then, head into the restaurant, which serves a wonderful selection of contemporary, modern cuisine, led by Executive Chef Brad Simpson.
The tuna sashimi, Hiramasa kingfish with jalapeno and milk bun with tempura soft-shelled crab are fantastic starters. And for mains, it's got to be the roasted duck with green mango chutney and orange ginger jus, along with the Flinders Island lamb shoulder, spiced eggplant and tahini tofu. Pair your main dish with a side of steamed broccoli or seasonal salad. For a dessert, save room for the popular petit fours or the chocolate dulce de leche.
Hosting an event or a special celebration? The Smith has two private spaces upstairs (appropriately called 'Mr Smith' and 'Mrs Smith') catering for between 10-135 guests. The Smith's events team can tailor a special package for your occasion. Hands down, one of Melbourne's best venues – our go-to when we're looking for delicious food, great drinks and a brilliant vibe (the good looking crowd doesn't hurt either).
