The Verdict
Masterchef alum Kha Nguyen has been hard at work since his departure from the show back in 2015. First came Jamu Dining, and now, we see Kha open the doors to his second restaurant, Tian38.
Teaming up with Nic Soon from Sydney’s infamous Ms G’s, the pair are bringing what they call “new school Chinese” to central Flinders Ln.
On the menu, that translates to east-meets-west creations like the chilli crab toasted jaffle and prawn tobiko sando with minced prawn, also known as prawn toast.
The nods to traditional Chinese diners are both apparent and charming. Think fish tanks, private dining rooms and neon lights balanced by modern sensibilities.
And yes, there’s yum cha. Boozy, bottomless yum cha that includes espresso martinis, mandarin mimosas and Eddie McDougall’s Little Pig rosé. Sessions kick off at 11:30am on Saturdays at and you’ve got 90 odd minutes to take it all in.

COMING SOON: Mondo di Pasta
Mondo di Pasta is living up to its name (world of pasta, for those of us who can’t speak Italian) with genre-bending flavours like a sizzling harissa carbonara or gochujang vodka sauce, and even a jamun–black plum—tiramisu for dessert.
