The Verdict

Shake off the sand and saunter into St Kilda’s newest bottle shop on Fitzroy Street, Tom’s Liquor Merchant. Only a couple blocks back from Melbourne’s iconic St Kilda Beach, the all-new destination is perfect for a couple cold ones to refresh yourself after a swim or great addition to pick up a pet nat for an evening picnic by the water.

Tom’s Liquor Merchant is brought to you by hospo journeymen Justin Lustman, Lachlan Fortune, and Curtis Cummings. Working in Melbourne at staples such as The Toff in Town and Cookie, these boys know how to do business. This was proven through the success of Chronicles Bar, their first business together in St Kilda.

Like many, the boys had to get creative when lockdowns hit. Instead of shutting the doors of Chronicles Bar, they turned it into a bottleshop so they could continue serving their loyal customers. Chronicles Bar is now operating like normal but some lifestyle changes from the pandemic have stuck with customers. 

“It was made clear to us…that the bottle shop was sorely missed. This further cemented the drive to take Tom’s Liquor Merchants from concept to reality” co-owner, Lachlan Fortune said.
And like that, Tom’s Liquor Merchants was born. It narrows in on the communal niche, with the boys getting their stock from local independent winemakers and craft brewers. 

Jump on the seltzers craze and buy some RAY seltzers, brewed in Footscray or if want to get the party started, pick up Marionette Liqueur made in Collingwood and explore the endless cocktail options. If none of that takes your fancy don’t worry, there are over 300 wines, 250 beers and 100 spirits to choose from. You’ll still be able to hop the pond too, with plenty of international offerings on shelves as well.
