The Verdict
Following in line with their nordic theme, the name ‘Valhalla’ is derived from Norse mythology which loosely translates a spiritual place or afterworld for warriors slain in battle. While the name has heavy connotations, there’s nothing quite as existential going on inside this classicly fitted subterranean bar, with deep rich greens, hardwood floors and furniture, and exposed lights creating a gentle atmosphere over booth seating.
Making its new home in the utterly stunning and iconic Olderfleet building up in the business end of the CBD, Valhalla is a local haunt for the busy stream of folk that spill in from the massive co-working empire Workclub above.
With an award-winning bartender in the line-up, Valhalla has a classically Scandinavian cocktail menu. It's minimal and simplistic but with clever combinations and creative execution such as their signature ‘Loki’, peach liqueur, cocchi americano, cancia brut, never never aquavit, and a lemon mist, a delicious homage to the Norse god of mischief.
There’s also a range of Scandinavian-styled tasting plates and charcuterie-inspired boards crafted with local produce to share and keep you level-headed during your evening debrief.
Valhalla is open 5pm until 11:30pm, Wednesday to Saturday, so take the steps down into this nordic themed haven soon.
