The Verdict

Abbotsford, it’s the underdog of Melbourne’s inner ‘burbs. The postcode’s understated charm is often trumped by its gruff exterior, however, there’s a growing quiver of cafes, bars and restaurants trying to change that—enter Volume 2.

Filling the void that Little Big Sugar Salt left behind, Volume 2 is helping bring the buzz back to Vic St. with its breezy interior and considered all-day menu.

You’ll of course find the classics covered off, but not without a sprinkle of nuance through the menu. Keep an eye out for the avocado and tomato escabeche with tomato toast, and the fresh-baked chocolate skillet is also worthy of a mention for any Saturday morning sweet-tooths out there.

Late-risers who missed the breakfast bell haven’t been forgotten about, either. There’s a grip of toasties well worth a look for a no-fuss feed, along with a buttermilk fried chicken burger that’ll balance out your lazy Sunday stroll through the hood quite nicely.
