The Verdict

Taking over the space from beloved wine bar Saint.Urban, this laidback Cave à Manger in Richmond combines the best of both worlds, a relaxed dining experience paired with a seasonal menu, along with a cellar wall filled with 80-changing wines that you’re free to select a bottle from.

Waygood’s open interior and soft honey palette amplify the welcoming atmosphere, with vintage art-deco lamps throughout the space. In the middle, the centrepiece and main feature is a curved bar adorned by hanging metal shelves that showcase their latest wines available to purchase. With a specially curated cellar list, Waygood highlights local producers as well as making the wines as diverse as possible meaning you’ll always be able to sample something different.

The menu is simple, made from fresh ingredients and constantly changing. For a teaser of what dishes are to come, the opening menu features delicacies such as pan-fried ricotta and sage gnocchi topped with mushroom and silverbeet, as well as a cauliflower schnitzel spiced up with jalapeno-kraut and mayo.

This unique space is best captured on a film camera—if you haven’t brought yours along, grab a custom Waygood film camera off the menu and click away.
