The Verdict
Plant-based eaters rejoice—Weirdoughs is here to satisfy your sugar cravings with desserts and pastries that aren’t sugar/gluten/nut/fun free.
Weirdoughs isn’t your typical dessert spot. They don’t take themselves seriously, the tunes are pumping all day and night, the interiors are—in one word—colourful, and instead of butter, their desserts are made from a mixture of macadamias, cashews and coconut oil. You won’t even notice the difference.
The treat you absolutely must scoff down is a tie between the Custard Weirdoughnut (filled with turmeric custard and then rolled in rhubarb sherbet sugar) and the vegan variation of a ham and cheese croissant—it’s a difficult choice.
Once the sun sets on Fridays and Saturdays the options get even more exciting with offerings like pepperoni pizza croissants with mozzarella, olives and San Marzano tomatoes, and odd (but delicious) ice cream combos served inside croissants like vanilla, eggplant and lavender.
The beverages here go perfectly with a flaky treat as well (we highly recommend dipping). Think hot fudge cacao with peanut butter, pumpkin and turmeric chai flavours, and custom blended coffee by St Ali, designed to work well with vegan milk.
Weirdoughs also has your back for those late-night trips back home on Fridays and Saturdays, keeping their doors open ‘til the early hours of the morning. (We think 2 AM almond croissants would go down pretty well.)
Don’t forget to check out the in-house DJs playing hip-hop, electronic and futuristic tunes all weekend long. Flaky pastry with a side of dance beats—why not?
