Our favourite hip-hop yoga studio has moved, and the new digs are SERIOUSLY pretty. Now sitting in a white-walled loft above Swan St in Richmond, Yoga 213 is an LA-inspired yoga practice that's generating a fair amount of Melbourne buzz. Mostly because they swapped the meditation tapes for some Kanye.
In a hip hop yoga class, you'll be doing the downward dog to the likes of Snoop Dogg, before finishing off with a slow and peaceful wind down to Drake. After something that doesn’t vibrate through the floor? 213 does a range of yoga ‘styles’, including Chill Yoga (a smooth reggae, vinyasa flow), and Yin Yoga (soothing tunes from Bon Iver and Helios, combo’d with some deep, mat-based positions). The music’s really just there to set your mental state. Zen vibes or slick rhymes—it’s really easy to just lose yourself in the movement.
A casual class will set you back about $25, but you can set up weekly and monthly membership plans, or even buy a yoga gift card (if you’ve got a friend who could use a little chill-time). Trust us, once you see this timber-lined loft space, you’ll want to come back for more.
