The Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants In Auckland In 2026
It’s no secret that successfully dining out with the whole family can take a bit of planning. Scouring kids menus, juggling dietaries and determining whether the clientele are going to be heart-warmed or horrified when you bundle in the door with kids in tow, can take a whole lot of energy you don’t always have to spare.
So we’ve done the hard yards for you. We've gone straight to the source and got some of Tāmaki Makaurau’s most savvy parents to spill their secrets about where they (and their kids) love to dine. And, boy, do they have good taste. Read on to ensure your next dinner out with the kids goes straight to core memory—for only the right reasons.

Little Creatures
2 Boundary Road, Hobsonville Point

Set in a repurposed air hanger on the beautiful Hobsonville Point, Little Creatures Brewery is the ideal spot for your little creatures, and is a favourite of Jess Quinn. “Little Creatures has a good playground which our kids love and a great kids menu (spag bol is always a hit!).” Dog-friendly and with plenty of space for the kids, you can park up with the whole whānau, cheeky pint of Little Creatures in hand.

Little Creatures runs a free weekly quiz night on Wednesdays from 6.30pm.
Hallertau Brewery
1171 Coatesville-Riverhead Highway, Kumeu, Riverhead
If your kids like to run wild (and in this age of devices, isn’t that a gorgeous thing), you’ll want to make a beeline for Hallertau Brewery which is decked out with a playground and large open space. “Hallertau is a big hit with our kids because the food is delish, it’s outside so they can run around without feeling hectic, and there’s a playground,” explains Jess.
Bex Jujnovich is also a fan: “Wine and fried chicken at the table while you watch your kid play? Yes please. Say less.”

Through the summer months, on the first Sunday of every month, kids can get amongst free activities like face painting and bracelet-making. (Thanks for the tip, Bex.)
The Parkhouse
1 Ripeka Lane, Whenuapai

Adding to our playground crawl is The Parkhouse, a light-filled sprawling villa-type setting that does all day brunch every day of the week, and dinner nights on Friday and Saturday evenings. “Parkhouse is really great because there’s a full playground outside,” says Jess. And she’s right to say full–it’s kitted out with a rock climbing wall and a slide you’ll lowkey want to take a run down yourself.

Parkhouse has a sister spot in Albany—Manor Cafe.
The Hunting Lodge
305-307 Waikoukou Valley Road, Waimauku
There isn’t a playground at The Hunting Lodge, but you won’t miss it, thanks to the massive lawn area with giant games (oh, and a certain cellar door.) “The menu is super family-friendly and one of those places where you almost feel like you’re on a date with your partner while still giving the kids plenty of freedom,” explains Bex. “I might be biased because we got married there, but it’s a favourite with many families for a reason.”
Insider Intel:
-
The Hunting Lodge is a short drive from Muriwai Beach and Woodhill Forest (with its horse riding, mountain biking, tree climbing, paintball, and off-road adventures) making it a great spot to make sure all the hungry bellies are fed after a day of family-friendly adventures.

Takapuna Surf Club
2 Anzac St, Takapuna

From the visionary team that brought us Queens Rooftop, Saint Alice and Dr Rudi’s, Takapuna Surf Club–found at the top of its very own escalator–serves spiffy club-style eats with a laid-back beachside vibe. Better still, it’s child-friendly to boot, with kids meals (pictured) that feel just as elevated as the club itself, and the option of a mini soft serve to match yours. Too cute.
It’s loved by Hannah Barrett for its “delicious wood fired pizzas, amazing cocktail list and kids corner, with beanbags and a TV.”

Literally on the edge of Takapuna Beach, it’s a sublime full-stop after an outdoorsy day, plus they do throw a lively quiz night every Wednesday.
Ragtag
162 Garnet Road, Westmere

Cute, cosy and 100% not authentic, Ragtag is a great spot to take the kids (and not just because tacos make for great finger-food). According to Louis Davis, you won’t have to be worried about anyone getting annoyed by kid energy, either. Quite the opposite. “The median house price of Ragtag’s neighbourhood means it’s all retired grandparents who live in a community their grandkids can’t afford to live in so you get lots of willing help from the nearby tables,” he explains. Better still, Ragtag’s pup-friendly.

Ragtag’s tortillas are handmade using dough enriched with duck fat which makes them super light and fluffy (but also categorically not vegetarian).
Azabu
44 Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay
There are so many reasons to hit Mission Bay with the kids: a pretty beach to swim at, a cute cinema, prime kite-flying at Bastion Point, and more ice cream shops than you can shake a stick at. But when it comes to finding a feed, Azabu’s proximity to the ocean, iconic fountain, and playground places it firmly at the top of the local list. As for the menu, Hannah rates it highly, noting the team’s fabulous bento boxes and quick service.
And, while atmosphere can get relegated to ‘nice to have’ when hunting down kid-friendly spots, Azabu delivers here. “It’s quite a nice vibe there, too, for the adults as well,” says Jasmine Kim.

Azabu is set in a refreshed 19th century stone mission building so you get to dine in a slice of history.
The Farmer’s Daughter
329 Omaha Flats Road, Matakana

Maybe you’ve spent the day at the Matakana Markets, you’ve taken the family swimming or beach walking at Omaha, or it’s summer and you’ve unleashed the kids on Action Ninja World. Whatever you’ve been up to during the day, you ought to refuel at The Farmer’s Daughter. “The coffee is exceptional, and food amazing, but for us right now the outdoor space cannot be beaten,” explains Alex Haslop. "They have huge veggie and flower beds which entertain the children, and a vast grass field. It's a great spot for coffee in the morning or a coconut pineapple margarita in the evening!" It's a sentiment echoed by Art Green, another fan of The Farmer's Daughter, who says "there's a big garden where the kids can run around and kick a ball and the food is incredible."

These folks regularly throw sensational culinary events, like their near-monthly harvest dinners or their current Pie + Pinot winter special where every Tuesday night you can snag a pie and a wine flight.
Prego
226 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby
There’s something about Italian food. It’s practically togetherness incarnate. So it goes without saying that Prego should be on your kid-friendly rotation. Jasmine has been dining there since before she became a parent, and continues to visit with her child.
“They’re incredibly accommodating when it comes to allergies, offer a dedicated kids’ menu, and provide high chairs, making it a very family-friendly option,” says Jasmine. “What I love most is that it feels special enough for a celebration—stylish and elevated without being overly formal or intimidating. It strikes the perfect balance between a nice dining experience and a comfortable environment for families.”

Prego has been dishing up platefuls of the good stuff since 1986. That’s a whopping 40 years of soul food.
Bravo at Cracker Bay
9 Westhaven Drive, Westhaven

Image credit: Bravo at Cracker Bay | Instagram
Westhaven newcomer, Bravo at Cracker Bay, has instantly become a magnet for families, with a stunning menu (did somebody say whole crayfish slathered in garlic butter?!), kids’ arcade games and fenced play area. “I've seen toddlers bring scooters to ride, baskets of toys pulled out at the large tables and bread thrown to the seagulls over the jetty,” says Alex.
Insider Intel:
-
Bravo also crushes the takeaway game, with coffee, cabinet food and evidently famed rotisserie chicken able to be summoned to hand as soon as the craving hits.
The Postman’s Leg
Cnr Downing Street and Glenfield Road
If you’re after a buzzing pub vibe, complete with ice cold beer and all the classic pub grub like chicken schnitty, fish and chips and Sunday roasts, The Postman’s Leg ticks all the boxes. It also just so happens to be hella kid-friendly. “The Postman’s Leg has an awesome playground and outdoor area for kids to play on,” says Art. Plus, every kids meal scores a free sundae topped with rainbow sprinkles and your little tyke’s choice of sauce.

Kids dine free on Sundays here and at several other Star Group pubs if you’re a Star Social member (which is totally free to join, by the way).
Fat Puku’s
Shop 1/12 Jellicoe Street, Wynyard Quarter

Famously opening its second location in a flurry of free burgers, Fat Puku’s is all the style and flavour of its Queen Street flagship, in the heart of Wynyard Quarter. Its sprawling set up and proximity to a great playground and the Karanga Plaza Harbour Pool makes it a great pick for a family feed, and that’s even before you get to their bangin’ smashies.
“We took the toddlers along and they had the best time,” says Erin Simpson. “There’s heaps of grass for them to run around and ride their scooters, plus plenty of games to keep them entertained while we relaxed.”
Insider Intel:
-
Fat Puku’s was named after a Persian cat called Puku (which is the Māori word for belly).
Milford Motel
14 Shakespeare Road, Milford
A slice of Palm Springs on Tāmaki Makaurau’s North Shore, herd the kids into the car and you’re en route for that quintessential holiday feeling, no flights required. At Milford Motel you’ll graze on everything from tiger prawns and sliders to pizza and mac ‘n’ (three) cheese.
“One of the standout features was the fantastic play area for kids,” explains Erin. “There were already plenty of toys available, which kept the little ones entertained and made travelling with toddlers so much easier. The facilities are incredibly family-friendly too. The bathrooms have clearly been designed with parents in mind, making it easier to manage both babies and toddlers.”
