15 Epic Things To Do This Waitangi Weekend

Say what? Another long weekend? We’ll take it! And, take it from us, if you’re kicking it out in Auckland, there’s no shortage of things to do. There’s music a-plenty (regardless of what style you prefer), outdoor movies, festivals and even a party for singles. And, let’s not forget two of the biggest parties of the year—the NRL Nines and Flamingo Pier!

Auckland Nines | Eden Park

Only in its third year, the Auckland Nines has quickly become a must-do event on the annual calendar. Bringing locals and visitors together to watch 16 NRL clubs battle it out in a two-day tournament, it’s the chance to not only see some of the best players in the world, but have a damn good time, too. With costumes, colour, food and bevvies, more than 80,000 fans are expected to show up for one of the best events in Auckland.

From London to Auckland, the team behind Flamingo Pier know how to throw a party. Take a ferry to Waiheke this Saturday for a 4pm kick-off of music from the likes of Phsychemagik, Frank Booker and Lord Echo, food from faves Miss Moonshines, Bearded Clam and Shaka Bowl and drinks from Bedford Soda, Man ‘O War Wines and CRATE brewery. The Deck at Ostro will transform into a pop-up Aperol garden this Sunday (and every Sunday of February). George FM DJ Marina Katerina will be kicking things off from 3pm this Sunday with Jarom Hall taking over the decks until the sun goes down.
