Hurrah—it’s the weekend! March has just totally flown by our eyes and we’re almost seeing the end of the wonderful month it was. It’s not over yet though, there’s still so much to do and so much to see. Let's just say you’re going to need to plan this weekend wisely to fit aaalll the events in.

We know you’ve been wanting, wishing and waiting for that TGIF feeling, and it’s hereeee! As per usual, Auckland’s dishing up some stellar shows, outdoor movies and even a three-day carnival. The excitement is so real.

PSA: it’s also the last weekend of the glorious Auckland Arts Festival. So, if you haven’t already been, or there’s still something you need to see, be quick and get amongst!

All Weekend


A gala dinner, market day and a carnival?! You might as well stay in Matakana all weekend. Matakana is raising funds for their new car park in style with a full three-day carnival-style event. A grand gala dinner on Friday, followed by a market day (samba dancers included!), and a carnival to top it all off!

Brr, is it getting chilly up in here? Watch the projected full-scale Antarctic iceberg and listen to the ice crack, drip, creak and groan at our very own museum. As the sun sets on the Auckland Domain, you’ll be transported into Antarctica in a New Zealand first. This is the largest project of its kind in the Southern Hempishere, and brings nature and technology to life.

The Festival Garden

Whether it’s post-show, pre-show or no show at all, visit The Festival Garden during the Auckland Arts Festival. With allll the food, drink and festival performers all in one, you can also nab your festival tickets here! There’ll also be cabaret, circus, live music and activities—it’s basically a festival itself!

Walk the Walk

Fashion lovers rejoice! All your fashion questions you have (or never thought of but now want to know) are being answered, like where were Dior originals made in Auckland? Who made Trelise Cooper’s wedding dress? Where is the source of Zambesi? Auckland, just quietly, has had a rich fashion history and it’s all being celebrated this weekend. Delve deep into this pop-up exhibit and experience a one-of-a-kind fashion journey.

It’s time to stock up on some holy water… this is going to be sinfully good! Horror is an international sell-out show and is hitting Auckland’s shores—loads of 4D effects and an equally eerie soundtrack will get you screaming and jumping out of your seats! Inspired by the true horror classics like The Ring, Evil Dead and The Exorcist, get ready for a spine-tingling night. We won’t judge when you keep your lights on at bedtime!

This British documentary is a behind-the-scenes look at the powerhouse that was Amy Winehouse. Silo Park cinema kicks off at 5pm, so you’ve got time to grab a bite to eat at one of the many food trucks and some drinks to wash it all down, before you cosy up at 9pm for this heartbreakingly beautiful outdoor movie night!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T… Aretha Franklin’s classic is all about girl power, and it’s being celebrated by some of New Zealand’s most powerful female voices, as well as their own funk, soul and R&B originals to top it off. Stories From The Slums

Bringing water filters to slums, teaching photography, and a mobile clinic on tuk tuk—charity Flame has done it all in the slums of Cambodia. This is a night of hope, amazing Asian-inspired food and a live and silent auction, where you can make a difference.

Classic Double Feature

Get a double dose of film goodness for the price of one! Pasifika Vibes

MOTAT is opening its doors for a special event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pasifika Festival! There’s FREE entry into the event. It’s looking like a day of live entertainment with DJs and even a Harakeke (flax) weaving workshop! Of course, no Auckland day out is complete without some amazing food trucks—this time, it’s Pasifika style with trucks like Maori food truck Puha and Pakeha stopping by, as well as a range of wood oven treats!

One of our fave markets for wonderful handcrafts is back! There’s a line up of over 250 makers, creators and designers for your delight, plus lots of rad food and drink—you’ll need it ‘cause you’re bound to be hungry after so much shopping! Kelmarna Autumn Festival

City farm and organic community garden Kelmarna Gardens is hosting a fundraising festival and it’s set to be all kinds of lovely. This festival will raise funds to continue to improve their gardens and help the community. What’s in it for you? Mind-blowing food, from Orphan’s Kitchen’s BBQ, Bread & Butter Bakery’s delightful artisan baked goods, Little Bird Organics’ treats and even more. There’ll be fermented food, bee keeping and food foraging workshops—not your average Sunday!
