5 Escapes For This Long Easter Weekend

The longest of long weekends is fast approaching and with it comes your last opportunity to get out and enjoy what’s left of the summer sun (crosses everything).

We love weekend adventures so much that we’ve wrote about them here and here. And, in the spirit of Easter, we decided to round up five more places you can escape to this long weekend.

So back your bags, your choccy eggs and jump in the car because we’re going on a road triiip!

Bethells Beach

You can’t call yourself Aucklander until you’ve visited Bethells Beach. The West Coast beach is a popular spot over the summer months with visitors flocking by the carload. The cooler weather means the crowd has moved on, making it the perfect place to visit this Easter Weekend. Think gorgeous Autumn sunsets, swims (if you’re feeling brave) and black sand that’s actually tolerable to walk on. Stay at Bethells Beach Cottages where you’ll enjoy ocean views from a hot tub. Bliss.

You’ve got a few days of your side so what better excuse to make the trip to Taupo? There’s an abundance of things to do. We’re talking prawn fishing, hot springs, delicious eats and you’ve gotta try your hand at the famous Hole In One Challenge. Enjoy the beauty of the waterfront from The Cove accommodation.

There’s no need to book a ticket to Paris when you can get experience a French escape in Tauranga. The French Country House provides you with the experience of living like a French aristocrat without all the hassle of a million-hour flight. Elegance and luxury come as standard here and if you really want to feel like the Lord or Lady of Tauranga, the accommodation has a stable full of horses you can ride around your make-believe manor.

Herne Bay

You know when you spot one of those huge old villas in Herne Bay and think, “I wish I could live in one of those,” well you can—for a couple of nights, at least. St Mary’s Residence is the ultimate city centre flash pad that looks so perfect you’ll spend at least the first hour of your stay just taking photos to share on Instagram. Then you’ll realise the guy standing quietly in the corner is actually your own private chef. You heard, private chef! If you’d prefer to dine out you’re in walking distance to Jervois Steak House, Dear Jervois and Queenies Lunch Room.

If you’d rather cheese over Easter chocolate, look no further than Puhoi. Just 50km north of Auckland, the historic village is home to Puhoi Valley cheese. The café has plenty of outdoor seating, meaning you can sit back in the sun as you work your way through their cheesy platters. Work off your cheese with a hike or a spot of kayaking. Visit for a day or make a weekend of it and stay at the luxurious Puhoi House.
