Have a nifty fifty in your pocket and not sure what to do with it? Worry not, because there’s plenty of cheap things to do in Auckland.  Here are 50 fun, tasty and sometimes free adventures, all for less than that pink note.

It’s time to get busy, friends!

  1. We love our harbour, so why not grab a kayak and soak in the spectacular views? A double kayak comes in at $45 an hour from Mission Bay Water Sports.

  3. Indulge in an elegant high tea for two at Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour. For $45 per head you’ll receive a wonderful selection of sweet and savoury treats and loose leaf tea. Fancy.

  9. Descend Jacobs Ladder and go swimming in the cove at Red Beach. Who knew Auckland was so cheap? 
  10. Head to The Classic for a night of comedy with some of New Zealand’s funniest peeps.
  11. Take a trip to Takapuna Beach Café for some fish ‘n’ chips and then eat it seaside—an essential thing to do in Auckland.
  12. Get your culture on and visit the Auckland Art Gallery.

  14. Make like a kangaroo and get jumping at Uptown Bounce. 
  15. Head to Omaha for some paddle boarding fun. You can't beat a little seaside activity, complete with a classic Kiwi BBQ of course. 
  16. Grab nine mates and head to Monsoon Poon for their Deluxe Banquet Menu at $45 a head. Only drink water and spend the last $5 to include sweet treats to finish off your meal.
  17. Dress warmly and head to Paradice Ice Skating—just try not to get a bruised butt. 
  18. Take a ferry and seek out the glow worms on Auckland’s youngest volcano, Rangitoto. 
  19. For some of the beverages in Auckland, head to The Garden Shed and share a few glasses of mulled wine or mulled apple crumble cider, it's just $25 a carafe!

  23. Roll your hungover self out of bed on a Sunday and head to the delicious La Cigale Market and nab yourself a bargain while chomping down on some street food.
  24. Buy a Sky Tower pass and walk on glass as the city looms below before heading to the luxurious Sky Café to enjoy a Kapiti ice cream or a savoury treat. 
  25. Head to Martha's Backyard and get a taste of America. There's overflowing candy bars and all the essentials you need to throw a bangin' party.

  27. Dine at Freeman & Grey any day of the week and enjoy their $10 express lunch menu. There's good ol' steak sammys, beer battered fish and chips and fettucine pasta. Mmm. 
  28. Get zen and head to Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple for some tea and a bite to eat. 
  29. Order the Pirates Platter and a glass of vino and unwind at the end of the week at Swashbucklers
  30. Libraries are alive and well in Auckland, and are a great space to relax and feed your brain. Check out their events page for book launches, conversations and guest speakers.
  31. Pack a picnic and head to Cornwall Park for a lazy afternoon on the grass.

  36. Grab a beer and a scotch fillet for twentyfive bucks at 16 Tun on Wednesdays. 
  37. Escape to the night sky and ponder the universe at the Auckland’s Stardome Observatory. 
  38. Take a road trip with your gal pals to the Matakana Markets and indulge in a day of delacacies.  
  39. Be an awesome workmate and surprise them with a lunch from Eat My Lunch…knowing you’re even kinder ‘coz you’re feeding a kid in need. 
  40. Treat your kids (or niece, nephew or borrowed child from a friend) to a dessert from Milse. The macaroons are off the frickin' charts. 
  41. Embrace your inner child and head to Rainbow’s End for some adventure fun. Yes, we realise that it’s an extra few dollars but we think it’s worth it. 
  42. Enjoy the best of New Zealand’s acting talent at The Basement. 
  43. Get those nails glammed up at Leah Light—$45 for a natural nail manicure with French polish. Budget blown on nails ain't a budget wasted, friends. 
  44. Buy yourself a giant doughnut and head to Pt Chev for a splash. 
  45. Soak up the rustic scents at Chapter Book & Tea Shop in Mt Eden, buy a book you normally wouldn’t read and feel your intelligence increase.
  46. Buy yourself $50 worth of doughnuts at Little & Friday then enjoy the priceless rush of regret that comes from eating $50 worth of doughnuts. 
  47. Soak your worries away in the thermal pools at Waiwera. 
  48. Pretend you need a reason to celebrate and say it with cake from Amy’s Secret Kitchen
  49. Enjoy the vibes and live music at The Kings Arms in Eden Terrace.
