7 Things You Can Send Someone That Are Better Than Flowers

Ever since Ryan Gosling left that little bouquet of flowers on Rachel McAdams pillow, we knew The Notebook was trouble. You see, us fusspots believe flowers aren’t always the answer. Although they’re heavenly on the eyes and worryingly moreish to smell, there's more to live and love than the beloved bouquet of flowers.

Lucky for us, Aucklanders have plenty of fab-bloody-tastic gift ideas to choose from. With speedier-than-lightening delivery systems, you can now send that special someone a present that will blow bae's mind. From fresh oysters, ample bottles of champagne and doughnuts that’ll transport your tastebuds to boogie town, here are seven things you can send someone that won’t wilt after the first week…or require any maintenance. Yippee.

We can’t get enough of Boxsmith for sorting out our last minute present woes—they focus on beautiful products that are ethical too! There are chocoholic boxes which contain organic chocolate both for eating and drinking, candy cane fortune cookies and, our favourite, a chocolate caramel room mist. There’s a new mum kit containing all the essentials, a soak box ideal for bath lovers and if you’re a true gift connoisseur, you can create your own gift hamper. On founding Boxsmith, owner Kiri wanted to give back to the community which is why five percent of every box is donated to the Make A Wish foundation. Shop well, do good, feel excelelnt—we could get use to this.

Sabato’s Cheese Box

Perfect for that special somebody that appreciates the true delicacies in life, Sabato’s hampers are a great way to say "I love you". The idea of a sunset picnic is incredibly enticing. Fast forward to the delivery of your very own cheese box and it’s a zero hassle date. In this delight you'll find camembert, blue and vintage cheddar accompanied by artisan crackers and date chutney. All that is left to collect is a cheeky bottle of bubbles and we’re good to go, team! It’s always a struggle standing at the cheese counter trying to decide between this and that because if we’re being honest, cheese is cheese and we’ll probably eat it no matter what. This however, is a saviour for the indecisive humans of the world, or those who forgot to get their mums a Mother's Day present. #oops.

Doughnuts delivered to your door, what more could you want? The Pie Piper and Doornuts has given new meaning to a sweetened delivery. With free delivery on certain days through the week, it’s a fabulous option when choosing a gift.  Thre are an abundance of preset boxes to choose from—delights such as the Boston favourites box, the delicious dozen box or wait for it…the chocolate box. (If you can’t tell, we’re suckers for chocolate). What may be the best news we’ve heard all year, The Pie Piper And Doornuts offers a doughnut cake! Think scrumptious doughnuts packed sky high in your pick of flavours, with icing that reads your very own name. Dreams really do come true.

The Daily Edited

Personalised leather and luxury accessories? Yes please! The Daily Edited is the ideal gift to send your favourite person from afar. Monogram their initials into a cute leather handbag, diary or clutch and every time they open it they’ll be reminded of you, bless their soul. The Daily Edited’s collection is extremely lust-worthy, with everything from cute shoulder bags to spacious duffel bags in bold colour ways. If your partner is a fashionista, then look no further. Or, for something a little cheeky, monogram an emoji into their accessory because us modern day tech couples all have that one emoji we favour…and it’s most likely the winking eye.

Willow and Wolfe

Providing some of the most luxurious gift sets we’ve seen, Willow and Wolfe are sure to put a smile on your SO’s dial. The products are meticulously chosen and presented in stylish, handwoven, willow or wooden hampers. The gifts are sourced from New Zealand, Europe and Australia bringing a worldly present right to the doorstop. The hampers are literally jam-packed with product and it’s hard to know where to begin. The high maintenance box is a surefire winner however, complete with ample bottles of wine, condiments, a coffee grinder and coffee, salami, olive oils and an abundance of chocolates. Alternatively for your man, the he’s got it all box is golden, complete with Triumph & Disaster facial lotions, chocolates, a Fressko flask and of course, a bottle of Pinot. For the real fusspots, get a little personal and DIY your own hamper.

Te Matuku Bay Oysters

Fresh oysters delivered right to your doorstep in an ice-cold box, delivery gifts continue to get better and better, friends. Delivering both to the North and South Islands, the oysters are harvested on the very same day as they are couriered, with the team priding themself on freshness. Te Matuka Bay is a marine reserve located on Waiheke and the oysters themselves are slightly sweeter than average, with a delectable plump texture. Whether these are a surprise gift for a seafood-loving pal or perhaps you’re catering for a celebration, the truth of the matter is, every occasion is taken up a few notches on the glam scale when oysters are added to the mix.

Angel Delivery

Nothing says "I’m sorry I couldn’t make it" like a giant delivery of gourmet food. Not only is the lucky receiver going to be beyond thankful as the roast ham they had in the oven is burnt to the bone, but the dessert you’ve also delivered has saved a failed attempt at creme brûlée. Nobody gets food poisoning, the host is no longer mad and you’re in the good books yet again—thank you Angel Delivery. Covering just about every occasion imaginable, there’s a new baby hamper with a homestyle cottage pie and the works, a fresh fruit and wellness hamper for the #fitspos and on the other end of the spectrum, a chocolate and coffee hamper for the more indulgent moments in life. To tell you the truth, we would probably gift this to ourselves to save another unsuccessful Master Chef meltdown. But others are sure to equally love the idea.
