Contributor | Urban List NZ

Kathryn has long dark hair and is standing in an autumnal park.

Kathryn joined Urban List as a freelance writer back in September 2019, but this was by no means her first foray into the world of words.

Kathryn has well over a decade of copywriting experience under her belt, primarily in the area of food. She began her career straight out of high school, contributing to a local surfing magazine while simultaneously completing a course in freelance journalism. Kathryn then went on to work for a number of different publications covering everything from music and film to pets and weddings. After this, her food writing story began, as she took up a job as a journalist on two hospitality-based B2B magazines. A few years and one child later, along came Urban List, where to this day she has the extremely difficult job of attending the latest new openings across Auckland, writing a weekly food news column, and more. In 2024, she also started food writing for well-known American website, Chowhound.

When she's not busy putting pen to paper, you can find Kathryn hanging out with her almost 13-year old daughter in their sunny beachside hometown of Orewa, drinking more coffee than she knows she should, having cheeky wine nights with her friends, baking up a storm, getting wrapped up in gritty crime shows, and enjoying Hozier's *actual* yell.

The 5 Best High Teas In Wellington

As the unofficial culinary capital of New Zealand, it's no surprise Wellington is home to some seriously epic high teas. Oriental-themed offerings, high teas in swanky hotels and even a one-of-a-kind experience from a famous tea brand are amongst those on offer.

The 6 Best High Teas In Christchurch

'High tea' is one of my all-time favourite phrases in the English language. Bringing together teeny tiny treats with copious cups of tea (or if you're really lucky, some bubbles) in a fancier-than-usual setting, this is the epitome of good living. And Cantabrians clearly know a thing or two about the subject, as these—the six best spots for high tea in Christchurch—show.

Where To Gorge On Dubai Chocolate-Inspired Treats In Auckland

If there's one food trend that's defined 2025 thus far, it's Dubai or knafeh chocolate. What started as a candy bar bringing together pistachio cream, tahini, and kataifi (a type of shredded pastry) inside a crackable, paint-splattered chocolate shell, created by Sarah Hamouda of Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai—has inspired an infinte number of copcats across the globe, and just as many sweet treats (think cookies, pastries, even cocktails).

10 Of The Best Italian Restaurants In Christchurch Right Now

Cantabrians sure know a thing or two about living the sweet life (or what the Italians call ''la dolce vita'').
