Someone picks up a Christmas decoration.

We love a good market, especially one with the word 'Christmas' attached. So hop in the car, crank up the Bublé (your secret's safe with us) and head along to one of these incredible Christmas markets coming to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland this holiday season.

Here are the best Christmas markets to hit up in Auckland in 2023.

Christmas Night Market

Victoria Park Market, Freemans Bay | Friday 1 December

As home to Auckland's (and probably the country's) largest chimney, Victoria Park Market is the perfect spot for a bit of Santa-inspired fun. And by that, we mean their upcoming Christmas Night Market—where you can whet your appetite with food trucks and a dedicated beer tent, groove along to live music, snap up Christmas cakes and other festive treats, and make a dent in that gift list. There'll also be face painting and art to keep the kiddos occupied, don't forget, this is the same night as Franklin Road's big switch on so it's going to be an event.

Orewa Xmas Twilight Market

Estuary Arts Centre, Orewa | Friday 1 December

Top local creatives will be out in force for the Orewa Xmas Twilight Market on December 1, so head on up to the Coast with your roomiest sack. Adding to the vibe will be food trucks and live entertainment, plus a visit from Santa himself.

Te Atatu Twilight Christmas Fair

Te Atatu South Community Centre, Te Atatu | Friday 1 December

Stuff your face with Philly cheesesteak rolls, real fruit ice cream, and pork belly sammies (or as we like to call it, 'the Santa diet') while roaming the stalls at the Te Atatu Twilight Christmas Fair. The holiday spirit will be in full swing here, with music and even some free face painting for the kiddos.

A Very Tasty Christmas Market

The Cloud, Auckland CBD | Saturday 2-Sunday 3 December

Someone holds a plateful of meat from the smoking shack at A Very Tasty ChristmasDine Social and Lemongrass Productions (the company behind such events as Taste of Auckland) invite you to eat, drink, and most importantly, be merry at the first ever A Very Tasty Christmas Market. This new kid on the block will be taking over The Cloud in downtown Auckland with all manner of festiveness, including pop-up bars and eateries, entertainment, and games for both the kids AND adults (especially fun after a festive tipple or two).

Commercial Bay Christmas Market

Commercial Bay, Auckland CBD | Saturday 2 December, Thursday 7 December, Saturday 9 December and Thursday 14 December

Commercial Bay aka the city's premier shopping destination will be hosting an epic Christmas Market across four dates this December.

Bringing together all the elements of a perfect holiday market (think live music and entertainment, giveaways, and a slew of food options including limited-edition eats and drinks from the likes of DOE Donuts and Harker Herbals), you'll also be able to snap up some epic shopping deals along with complimentary gift wrapping, customised calligraphy and more.

There's also plenty of action for the littlies, such as face painting and balloon twisting, treats by the bucketload—and a chance to meet the man in red himself.

Christmas On Your Waterfront

Karanga Plaza and Park Hyatt Auckland, Wynyard Quarter | Saturday 2–Sunday 3 December

An artisan Christmas market will be descending on Karanga Plaza and its glam next-door neighbour, Park Hyatt Auckland for the first weekend of December. Expect stalls, craft workshops, meet-and-greets with Santa, and a sackload of food and bevvy specials from one of Auckland's best hotels (think coffee and cake combos, a good old-fashioned barbie, and even a Chrissy-themed chocolate high tea), all in a gorge waterfront setting.

Takapuna Christmas Festival

Waiwharariki Anzac Square | Saturday 2 December

Kiwi Christmasses are synonymous with hot summer days by the beach, and that's exactly what you'll get at the Takapuna Christmas Festival (provided the weather behaves, of course!). The newly-opened Waiwharariki Anzac Square and the surrounding area will play host to an array of holiday-themed entertainment, food stalls, games, and more. End the day with a Christmas coffee from nearby Starbucks (the toffee nut crunch latte is a must), best enjoyed beneath the larger-than-life Christmas tree on Hurstmere Green.

Ponsonby Christmas Market Day

Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby | Saturday 2 December

Come wander Auckland's hippest shopping strip and bag a few festive bargains along the way at the annual Ponsonby Christmas Market Day. This popular event offers a fantastic line-up of market stalls (including those from General Collective) as well as Chrissy treats, music, and even gift wrapping. And don't forget to check out the cheeky Santa that appears atop the town's skyline each year—what form will he take in 2023?

Maker's Market

Pah Homestead, Hillsborough | Sunday 3 December

Pah Homestead's Maker's Market is back for another year, and it's bringing with it a tonne of unique goods, lovingly crafted by local artists, makers, and small businesses which will be dotted around their sunny sculpture garden and on the verandah. We're told the handmade Christmas decos are especially popular.

Devonport Ethical Christmas Market

Devonport Community House, Devonport | Sunday 3 December

For a Christmas market with the feel-good factor, make sure to visit Devonport on December 3. The seaside village is once again hosting the Devonport Ethical Christmas Market, which focuses on providing eco-friendly, sustainable, and ethically sourced goods that are legit doing their bit to make the world a better place. Buying your pressies here is guaranteed to send you to the top of Santa's nice list.

Auckland Polish Christmas Market

Auckland Polish Association, Morningside | Sunday 3 December

Another Christmas market you absolutely must add to the list this year is this goodie, hosted by The Auckland Polish Association. Grab yourself some authentic Polish goodness (including traditional Polish food and artwork), and experience the spirit of a true European Christmas.

Italian Christmas Market—Mercatino Di Natale

Freeman's Bay Community Centre, Freeman's Bay | Saturday 9 December

You'll be livin' la dolce vita as you wander the stalls at this fabulous Italian Christmas market, held every December in Freeman's Bay. You'll find only the finest pressies here, darling, especially when it comes to those of the edible variety—think panettone, prosecco, and pandoro. Bellisimo.

Barking Mad Christmas Special

NZKC Grounds, Ardmore | Saturday 9 December

And now for a Christmas market dedicated to man's best friend. Bought to us by Barking Mad, expect a day of exciting pup-approved fun including food (for both dogs and humans), a dog show, educational talks, dog races, and the opportunity for you and your pup to get snapped in Santa's sleigh. Woof!

Christmas Market Matakana

Matakana Country Park Market, Matakana | Sunday 17 December

Christmas Market Matakana. Finally, make ready your sleigh and head north to the Christmas Market Matakana, where you'll wander more than 70 stalls selling holiday-themed gifts and décor nestled beneath overhanging maple trees (we can feel our festive cup filling as we speak).

We know this is a fair way for some of you to fly, even with the fittest of reindeer, so best tag on lunch and a mosey around the township while you're here. These guys are hosting a number of other Christmas markets throughout December, which you can check out here.

Christmas Craft Harvest Market

Jubilee Hall, Parnell | Every Saturday until 23 December

Parnell’s Craft Harvest is going festive with the return of its yearly Christmas Craft Harvest Market. Located in the historic Jubilee Hall, you'll be treated to wares from some of the city's most talented crafters across five glorious weeks—think knitwear, toys, candles, stationery, decorations, and more.
