Kiss Plastic Packaging Goodbye With This New Eco-Friendly Lip Balm

I don’t know about you, but I lose approximately 17 tubes of lip balm every year. It doesn’t matter whether they’re in my hand bag, on my desk, in the bathroom or shoved into a pocket, they just seem to mysteriously disappear within a few weeks, leaving me with dry lips and the need to buy yet another tube.

If this sounds like you, and you’re starting to feel some serious guilt over the amount of plastic tubes you are leaving lying around the place, possibly in a ‘safe place’ but more likely lying in a gutter and on their way to the ocean, Ethique has come up with a nifty solution. Already one of the world’s leading sustainable beauty and lifestyle brands, they’ve gone and launched the line of eco-friendly lip balms we’ve all been waiting for.

Wrapped entirely in plant-wax lined cardboard, the new line of lip balms are 100% plastic free, and are completely compostable, with the wrappings able to completely break down naturally. They come in five flavours—chocolate, peppermint, tinted, unscented and our personal fave, pink grapefruit and vanilla.

Did you know almost 200 million plastic lip balm tubes end up in landfill every year? Even worse, they’re a common find on beaches around the world, as entrepreneur, environmentalist and founder of Ethique Brianne West explains.

“Whilst some [lip balms] may be recyclable, statistically the vast majority will not be. This means that almost every lip balm tube ever made will still be on the planet somewhere,” she said. That’s a lot of lip balm, right? Swapping your lip balm to one that’s plastic-free seems like a small change but will make a world of difference.

Do we even need to mentioned the fact that Ethique are carbon neutral, plant a tree for every online order and they donate 20% of profits to charity? Basically, Ethique are doing a whole of good and making it easy for you to do the same.
