HB Queen! More importantly, happy long weekend to us! May/June seems to be that time of year when we all get a tad drained, the days are getting rainier, nights are getting colder, work days are getting longer and for students, exams season is kicking in. So we are in absolute need of a little break and the Queen’s Birthday could not have come at a better time. To make the most of this little time off, we have broken down a list of things to do this Queen’s Birthday weekend! 

All Weekend

High Tea At The Harbourside

Pinkies up! Celebrate the Queen’s Birthday just like she would by gathering some of her loved ones and conversing over a delectable selection of finger sandwiches, cakes and premium brewed tea. Luckily for us, Auckland has a range of different locations that offer high tea and they all give a little something different! Head to Harbourside where they're spoil you with a glass of champagne to kick things off!

Doc Edge Festival

Our favourite documentary film festival is back, giving us something to do every day of the long weekend! All the documentary films will be screened at Auckland’s cultural hub, Q Theatre, and the line-up this year looks stronger than ever. For more information on sessions and ticketing, click here.

Ecoya Winter Garden

This winter pop-up is not going to be around for long and perfect timing as it’s going to be on this weekend! Located in the Mission Bay Pavilion will be mulled wines, sharing boards and outdoor movies. The winter escape will also include a bespoke menu created by head chef Cobus Klopper and it will all be accompanied by the delightful changing scents of Ecoya candles. Comedy All-Stars

Giggle your way in to the long weekend at Auckland’s laughing house, The Classic Comedy Club! Every Friday and Saturday night, these guys are responsible for major lols and never fail to put us in a good mood. So hop on it, sit back and laugh away! Start the celebration of the Queen’s Birthday with a massive grin and we can guarantee that this weekend will be a banger!

George FM’s Club Classics Countdown Party

George FM will be hosting a little party at The Lula Inn on Friday night and we could not be more excited. Some of George FM’s finest DJ’s will be playing classic bangers from 10pm till 4am midnight so we can dance our way in to the long weekend! Remember One Direction? Although they’ve disbanded, their legacy remains and we all still secretly have a soft spot for them...admit it! Saturday, 2nd June

Blues VS Rebels

Do things Kiwi style and celebrate this long Queens Birthday weekend in Auckland roaring and cheering at Eden Park while watching a good ol’ game of rugby! Even if you’re not much of a rugby fan, don’t shy away from this event! The loud crowd, saturated green fields and live action really is something else and is so much more special than just watching it on television. Ardbeg Day

Whiskey lovers unite! Ardbeg Day are coming to New Zealand for the seventh year where the connoisseurs of whiskey come together and share their love for the drink. This year, Ardeg are throwing it back to the late 60's when the whiskey culture was vibrant and they're paying those groovy days a tribute with a new release! It's called Ardbeg Grooves has a beautiful aroma of spice, smoked apples and pears. New Zealand is actually the first that get to try this creation so get on to it at The Jefferson on Saturday.

Matakana Village Farmers Market

Although it isn’t exclusive to Queen’s Birthday weekend, you can never go wrong with a farmers market! Matakana will be doing their usual thing of exuding nothing but good vibes but there have been a few additions to their food stalls that are a must try! Look out for Grown Up Donuts, freshly made malasadas filled with sophisticated flavours like espresso cream and lemon meringue?

Sunday, 3rd June

Social Painting Workshop: Paint Like Rita Angus

Channel the artist within you on Sunday at the Auckland Art Gallery and attend a painting workshop! Brought to you by Art Bloom Academy, you get to try and replicate the famous painting from 1965, Rita Angus’ Scrub burning, Northern Hawke’s Bay. Queen’s Bday Party At MR TOMS

Mondays are off which means Sunday sessions are ON! Celebrate the Queen’s Birthday with Ponsonby hub MR TOMS. There’ll be live tunes and special cocktails made from Absolut Lime Vodka for just 12 bucks, the perfect treat that you deserve. Royal Weekender Ft. P-Money

There really is no excuse to go home early if you have nothing on the next day, is there? Britomart Country Club are bringing some mad tunes and a killer dance party to celebrate the long weekend. Lock In

Britomart isn’t just limited to one party as Racket Bar have joined up with REC and Orleans with a party of their own! They’ll be getting some of their best DJ’s providing beats to dance to till 4am! Hangover Cure

Knackered from the night before and need a good feed to treat and nourish your body towards recovery? Luckily majority of the eateries and cafés are open during Queen’s Birthday (much appreciated) and to make you feel even luckier, we have already built a list of the best hangover food in Auckland.

Celebration Cake

You can’t celebrate a birthday without a good old slice of cake! The Caker located on K’Road has just released their cake of the month and we think it's one of their best yet. Are you ready for this? Double layer peanut butter cake with dark chocolate chunks and peanut butter cream cheese frosting, topped off with dark chocolate peanut butter cookie crumble! Get a slice of that! You also get a complimentary baking mix of the choc peanut butter cookies which means you can also get your baking on this long weekend. Just a warning: they're not open on Sunday!

Queen’s Birthday Pop & Rock Vinyl Record Sale

From 9am-2pm, Red Beach Methodist Church will be transformed in to a vinyl record sale! These babies are rare to find nowadays so this is an absolute treat for Aucklanders. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find something here that’s the missing piece to the collection you’ve been working on for far too long?
