The Old Stamford Court Is Officially Reopening As Your Next Must-See Lifestyle Destination

There’s a new reason to look up when you’re walking through Singapore’s Civic District, because the familiar clock tower at the corner of Stamford Road and Hill Street is about to begin a new chapter. Yes, after an 18-month restoration period, the former Stamford Court is reopening this September as Stamford Place—a new lifestyle destination bringing together places to stay, work, eat, and socialise under one roof. 

Naturally, the landmark has lived a few lives already. Before Stamford Court, the site was home to Eu Court, an Art Deco apartment building commissioned by philanthropist and entrepreneur Eu Tong Sen in the 1920s. Its latest incarnation is looking to carry that history forward rather than erase it, with Singapore-based Ministry of Design and Zarch Collaboratives drawing inspiration from the building’s architecture and iconic clock tower for its contemporary design.

So, what can you actually do here? Quite a lot, as it turns out. The ground floor will be home to eight food, beverage, and retail spaces, including Blue Label Tavern, where stone-fired pizzas and a new dry-rubbed rotisserie chicken are on the cards, as well as a new Japanese dining concept, Yoruya. Cold Storage On The Go will also be moving in for anyone in need of a quick lunch, coffee break, or last minute dinner ingredient. 

At the heart of the destination will be Stamford Social, an all-day restaurant and meeting place that’s inspired by European cafe and bistro culture. Opening in October, it’s designed to be the kind of spot you can drop into for a morning coffee and accidentally still be sitting at come evening drinks—or when you eventually convince yourself that dinner is also a good idea.

Above it all, the building will introduce APT., a boutique serviced apartment concept with 66 design-led residences for stays of a few nights, several weeks, or longer. Guests will have access to a gym, laundry facilities, and The Great Room’s 30,000-square-foot hospitality inspired work space, making it a handy option for travellers whose itineraries involve a little bit of jotting and typing. 

With more restaurants, retail concepts, and cultural programming still to be announced, Stamford Place looks set to become more than just another new opening. And for a building that’s been part of the Civic landscape of decades, it’s a fittingly modern next act—one that we’re keen to see unfold.
