The Ultimate Tuna Melt Recipe For Anyone Still Emotionally Recovering From Heated Rivalry
There are comfort foods, and then there are comfort foods. The kind you make standing in the kitchen at 11pm while rereading certain chapters for the fifth time and pretending you’re “just having a snack”.
Enter: the tuna melt. Crispy, cheesy, deeply comforting, and somehow a little dramatic (much like Heated Rivalry itself).
The Ultimate Heated Rivalry-Inspired Tuna Melt Recipe
What You’ll Need
- 1 can tuna in springwater, drained
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon finely diced red onion
- 1 tablespoon chopped pickles or relish
- Squeeze of lemon juice
- Salt and pepper
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 2 slices cheddar cheese
- 2 slices mozzarella or Swiss cheese
- Butter for frying
Step One: Make The Filling
In a bowl, combine tuna, mayo, Dijon mustard, onion, pickles, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Taste as you go. This is not the time for restraint.
You want the filling creamy but still textured. Think emotionally vulnerable but trying to act normal about it.
Step Two: Assemble Your Melt
Butter one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, pile on the tuna mixture, then layer both cheeses generously before topping with the second slice of bread.
Step Three: Fry Until Golden
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and cook each sandwich for around 3 to 4 minutes per side until deeply golden and crisp, with fully melted cheese.
Do not rush this process. Much like certain fictional hockey players, the payoff is better with patience.
Step Four: Eat Immediately
Slice diagonally because this is a serious publication with standards.
Serve hot with chips, pickles, or absolutely nothing because honestly the sandwich is doing enough already.
