Gardens by the Bay has unveiled plans for Wetlands by the Bay, a brand-new nature precinct that will transform part of the gardens into a lush wetland ecosystem filled with mangroves, wildlife habitats and immersive attractions.

Announced in March 2026, the five-hectare project will expand the existing Kingfisher Wetlands and introduce a mix of ecological habitats, interactive experiences and new public spaces. The idea is to create a destination that blends biodiversity with recreation (something Singapore has become particularly good at) while keeping the gardens evolving with fresh experiences for locals and tourists alike.

What Is Wetlands By The Bay?

Wetlands by the Bay will sit within Bay South Garden and is designed to function as both a nature habitat and a visitor attraction.

Expect hundreds of mangroves and coastal plants, new habitats for birds and wildlife, and elevated boardwalks that let visitors explore the wetlands without disturbing the ecosystem below. The expanded landscape will also include quiet viewing areas where visitors can spot wildlife while soaking up Marina Bay views.

The development will incorporate the existing Kingfisher Wetlands but significantly expand the area to create a richer wetland ecosystem right in the heart of the city.

A Massive Digital Art Museum Is Part Of The Plan

One of the biggest headline features will be a flagship museum by teamLab, the same artists behind the immersive installations previously shown at ArtScience Museum.

But this new venue will be much bigger and more ambitious. The 12,000-square-metre indoor-outdoor museum will combine digital art with water and natural landscapes.

One of the most talked-about experiences will allow visitors to pedal kayaks through immersive digital installations, blending technology, art and nature in a way that feels very on-brand for Singapore.

Boardwalks, Event Spaces And Waterfront Dining

Beyond the museum, Wetlands by the Bay will introduce several new public spaces across the gardens.

Highlights include a cantilevered canopy boardwalk connecting the Gardens by the Bay MRT station to the gardensmain entrance, giving visitors a scenic route through the wetlands.

A large Glade Lawn will also be added, designed as a community space for outdoor events and gatherings.

Food lovers can look forward to a refreshed waterfront dining precinct, which will replace the existing Satay by the Bay area with a two-storey dining space overlooking the wetlands and Marina Reservoir.

A Bridge That Connects Two Gardens

Another major addition will be a 550-metre bridge across Marina Reservoir, linking Bay South Garden with Bay East Garden.

Part of the bridge will sit just above the waters surface, creating the illusion of walking on water while offering uninterrupted skyline views of Marina Bay. The bridge will also make it easier to travel between the gardens and nearby attractions, including the future FoundersMemorial.

When Will Wetlands By The Bay Open?

Wetlands by the Bay was announced in March 2026, with construction expected to begin in early 2027 as part of the next phase of development at Gardens by the Bay.

The project will open progressively from late 2028 onwards, with different elements, including the expanded wetlands, new boardwalks and public spaces, launching in stages. The teamLab museum is expected to debut around the same period, adding a major new attraction to the Marina Bay precinct.
