Sydney, it’s time to sharpen your tastebuds and tighten those tuxedos because something seriously smoky is hitting Prefecture 48, and it’s all going down this September.

The bourbon-loving crew at Jim Beam is throwing an unforgettable flame-fuelled evening to celebrate the relaunch of Jim Beam Black, now proudly boasting a seven-year age statement and a richer, smoother flavour profile.

Taking place under the stars in the Prefecture 48 courtyard on Thursday 11 September, this epic one-night al-fresco takeover is part of Suntory Bar, a three-month immersive bar residency at the inner-city hotspot

While the dress code might be elevated black-tie country, the food on offer can only be described as smoky, Southern-style indulgence. And who better to take the reins than the meat master behind LP’s Quality Meats, Luke Powell?

But the smoke star status doesn’t stop there. Powell is leading the charge to reimagine the world of BBQ through classic techniques and gourmet execution, putting together an indulgent three-course menu to impress

From a collaborative dish with the culinary masterminds behind hatted Japanese restaurant Ibushi, a BBQ platter heaped high with sticky ribs, pull-apart brisket, charred veggies and Kentucky-style sides, this flame-grilled feast is packed with char and umami for the ultimate culinary collab. Plus, taste won’t be the only sense that guests will have delighted on the night, with the seven-year age statement rounding out the seven-sense experience.

And of course, it wouldn’t be a Jim Beam BBQ without a live blues band and a range of creative tipples to complement the food, hero-ing none other than their Jim Beam Black bourbon. Aged for seven years, this smoky sipper packs extra depth and smoothness. Best served with bitters and ginger ale, or expertly shaken by mixologists into a Whiskey Sour or Old Fashioned. Want to put your taste buds to the ultimate test? Be sure to pull up a seat for a guided Jim Beam Black tasting and see if your palate’s as savvy as you think.

With just 40 seats up for grabs and an all-inclusive $117 price tag, be sure to snap up a ticket before it is too late.
