To celebrate the "polar blast" ripping through Sydney this week, East Village Sydney in Darlinghurst is relaunching its much-loved rooftop winter garden.
A highlight of wintertime in Sydney in the pre-COVID era, the pink-hued winter wonderland is dripping in fairy lights and features a cosy menu inspired by European winter markets.
Expect to see iconic winter dishes from Germany, Switzerland, and France like currywurst, bratwurst sausage with curried ketchup gravy, and chicken liver parfait served on warm toasted brioche fingers with brandy-soaked raisins and pickled onion rounds.
The real kicker here is the four-cheese fondue spiked with Luxardo Maraschino liquor and served with vegetables, cured meats, and crusty bread.
As for the drinks side of this rooftop garden, mulled wine and European-style warm meads from the Barossa are both up for grabs. For maximum warmth, we recommend the smoked Zacapa 23 rum old fashion, an alpine sour, or the winter spritz. Or, go all out with a "Cinnamon Toastie" shot, made with cinnamon schnapps and Amaretto.
