Manly Wharf is the place to be on any given Sydney weekend, but this year it's giving you a whole new reason to flock to the harbourfront precinct with a Mexican food festival taking over this March.

La Mexicana is an extension of the popular Margarita Week, celebrating all things Mexican flavour and culture across the wharf. It will also bring an authentic slice of Mexico City to Sydney, with two chefs from the renowned taqueria El Vilsito travelling to Australia for the occasion—so you can experience some of the world’s most talked-about tacos, no passport needed.

From the Michelin Guide to The New York Times and even Netflix’s Taco Chronicles, El Vilsito is a veritable street food institution operating out of a mechanic’s workshop. They’re particularly known for their tacos al pastor—a beloved dish of marinated pork cooked on a vertical spit, served in corn tortillas.

“We’ve welcomed so many Australians to El Vilsito over the years, and their love for our tacos has always stayed with us,” said Sandra Blanco, who is the daughter of El Vilsito owner Juan Carlos Blanco.

“Our family has been making food here for nearly 40 years, so being able to bring our chefs and recipes to Australia and cook them in the same way we do at home feels incredibly special. We’re proud to share something that already means so much to so many Australians.”

La Mexicana will run across two vibrant weekends overlapping Margarita Week—an 11-day celebration of the popular cocktail in partnership with Patron.
